Northeast Monsoon has remained subdued throughout the month of November. In fact, the month of October was also not too great for the south Peninsular region in terms of rains. The weather systems that developed near the region also failed to give significant rains over the entire region.
However, it seems like things are about to take a fortunate turn as a cyclonic circulation which is over Southeast Bay of Bengal is expected to bring good news for the entire Peninsular India.
It is expected to intensify into a low-pressure area during the next 24 to 48 hours and will move in a west-northwest direction towards the Tamil Nadu coast. The system may also further intensify into a depression.
Due to this, several parts of the state of Tamil Nadu will begin to receive rain November 30 onward. Rains in Chennai are expected to begin during the night of November 30. Rains will increase on both December 1 and 2 with few heavy spells as well.
Most parts of Tamil Nadu will receive good rains. Not only this, rainfall is likely to be observed over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, South Interior Karnataka, as well as Kerala. With this, Northeast Monsoon which almost died, will rise from its grave and revive.
After December 2, on and off rains will continue and we expect a formation of second similar weather system over Southeast Bay of Bengal.
This system will also take the same route and may affect Tamil Nadu and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh after December 2. However, the intensity and spread of second weather system will only be known with the passage of time.
