Potential Cyclone in Bay to revive rains in Gujarat, Rajasthan by September 21

September 21, 2018 5:20 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Since last few days,  weather of Gujarat has been almost dry  barring occasional light rains over the southern districts. As on September 20, Gujarat is battling high rain deficiency 27%. There are two meteorological divisions in Gujarat, one is Saurashtra and Kutch which is deficient by 31% and the other one is Gujarat region, which is deficient by 24%.

However, Rajasthan has been witnessing normal rains, with marginal deficiency of 10%. While West Rajasthan is  highly deficient to the tune of 24%, while East Rajasthan is normal with mere deficiency of 2%.

Now, rains have once again approaching western states as Monsoon 2018 revives. According to Skymet Weather, the deep depression over West-central Bay of Bengal is all set to intensify into a cyclone. It would be crossing coast tonight and weaken again. Although a weakened one, the system will move towards central parts of the country.

We expect rains to commence over Gujarat region by the night of September 21 and gradually Saurashtra & Kutch will start receiving rain and thundershower activities. We expect the scattered light to moderate rains to continue until September 23.

This will be the last rainy spell over the state of this Monsoon season. Although rain deficiency will persist over Gujarat, but this rainy spell will reduce it to some extent.

Meanwhile in Rajasthan, eastern parts of the state will also start receiving rain activities by the evening or night of September 21. On September 22 and 23, some more parts of Rajasthan particularly western districts would also receiving scattered rains. Intensity will be more over eastern districts.

By September 25, weather will become absolutely dry over both the states.
