Chennai rains have made a comeback and activity is likely to bring cheer to the parched capital city of Tamil Nadu. The city has remained dry for almost four months. While Chennai has only recorded 2 mm rain during the last 24 hours, more showers are expected to lash the city during the next 24 hours.

The low-pressure area in the Southwest Bay of Bengal intensified into a well-marked low yesterday. Presently, conditions are favourable for the formation of a depression anytime soon. The system is likely to cross Tamil Nadu coast by tomorrow.

The system is likely to result in heavy showers over many areas during the next 24 hours. Chennai rains will begin today around the afternoon hours. However, these rains will only be patchy in nature and will be confined to some areas only.

During the late night hours, Chennai rains are expected to pick up pace and good showers are expected over many areas. By tomorrow during the early morning hours, heavy rains will lash Chennai resulting in comfortable weather conditions.

After torrential rains lashed Chennai during the month of December, the city has not received heavy rains at all. While patchy rain did occur in January, the months of February, March and April remained dry. Thus, these rains in Chennai will be welcomed by the residents who have been desperately waiting for the rain gods to bestow some kindness on them.
