The national capital Delhi is expected to receive rain or thunder showers today evening. Moist southeasterly winds from the Bay of Bengal are reaching Delhi along a trough (region of intensified moist winds) that extends from Punjab to Rajasthan. This trough is working in tandem with the weather system (Western Disturbance) in North India.
The period of rain that would last till tomorrow evening will also be witnessed in some other areas of northwest plains such as Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, northeast Rajasthan and northwest Madhya Pradesh. Amritsar, Chandigarh, Delhi, Jaipur, Kota, Gwalior, Agra and Lucknow are the places where precipitation could take place during the next 24 hours.
Clouds and rain would help in bringing some respite from the chilly nights by increasing the minimum temperatures in North India. Weather in North India has already turned colder at many places including Delhi in the last two to three days. However, day temperatures are expected to fall during the same period.
Weather forecast for New Year also suggest that there is possibility of dense fog in Delhi in some pockets. Dense fog could hit air and rail traffic in the national capital during this time.
