Porbandar receives rain after a prolonged dry spell

July 14, 2016 8:32 AM |

Porbandar receives rain after a prolonged dry spellSouthwest Monsoon has finally covered the entire country on July 13. The month of July has been fairly good for several parts of the country as heavy rains have been recorded over many areas. However, the Saurashtra region remained devoid of good rains throughout the month.

Coastal areas did receive some rains but rain continued to give a miss to both the Kutch and the Saurashtra region. However, in a fortunate turn of events, Porbandar in the Saurashtra region has been receiving good rains during the past 48 hours.

While the city recorded 21.8 mm of rain a day before, Porbandar has received close to 65 mm of rainfall during the last 21 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday. Before this, the city had received a mere 3 mm of rain on July 8. Throughout the first week of July, Porbandar has received on and off very light rain.

These rains can be attributed to the weather system over Northwest Madhya Pradesh. The Monsoon trough has also been extending from the Saurashtra region. To top it all, moist winds from the Arabian Sea have also been enhancing the rainfall activity.

Now, rainfall activity is expected to reduce significantly over Saurashtra as the weather system will move northwards. Also, the Monsoon trough will shift closer to the foothills away from the Saurashtra region increasing rains over Northern Plains.
