PM Modi’s visit to Varanasi cancelled due to heavy Monsoon rains

Heavy Monsoon rains in Varanasi has forced Prime Minister Narendra Modi to cancel his visit to the city on Sunday. The city has been lashed by heavy showers since Sunday morning, with recording 38 mm of rain in span of just three hours.

Narendra Modi was scheduled to address ‘Vikas Sabha’ on Sunday afternoon in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh which is also his parliamentary constituency. Reportedly, the venue for the programme is also heavily waterlogged, making it impossible for authorities to host the programme.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, more heavy rains are expected to continue over the city throughout the day.

Apart from addressing the public meeting, Prime Minister was also scheduled to inaugurate country’s biggest multi speciality trauma centre at Banaras Hindu University.

Thereafter, he was supposed to launch three more development programs. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Governor Ram Naik were supposed to receive the prime minister.
