Pleasant weather to stay along the West Coast, good rains to continue

The West Coast of India has been witnessing intermittent showers since past many days. The region has recorded rains of speckled intensity.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday, in Konkan region, Mahabaleshwar recorded showers of heavy intensity to the tune of 62 mm, Mumbai 54 mm, Bhira 54 mm, Dahanu 30 mm, Harnai 21 mm and Ratnagiri 21 mm.

During the same time frame, Honnavar recorded heavy rains of 82 mm, Madikeri 68 mm and Mangaluru 31 mm. The coastal region of Kerala has also received moderate rainfall like Kochi 31 mm, Kozhikode 28 mm, Kottayam 23 mm and Kannur 15 mm.

These weather conditions can be attributed to the active off shore trough along the West Coast. This trough became more active under the influence of a low pressure area over Maharashtra. Moreover, westerly winds prevailing over the region inducing moisture feed.

As per Skymet Weather, the Konkan region will record moderate to heavy rains for next 24 to 48 hours. Meanwhile, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala will record light to moderate with isolated heavy spells. The weather will continue to remain pleasant as well as breezy all along the coast.

As on August 19, the sub-divisional of rainfall distribution statistics shows that Kerala is rain deficient by 28%, Konkan and Goa by 7% and Coastal Karnataka by 25%.
