Kolkata generally enjoys pleasant weather during the winter months of December and January, though January being the coldest for the city. The maximums throughout the month keep rolling in mid 20s , while the minimums remain in lower teens.
The average monthly maximum temperature of Kolkata is 25°C and the average minimum is 14°C.
Rains are also minimal during January, with the average rainfall for the city standing at mere 10 mm. In fact, there are very rare occasions when the city has managed to surpass its monthly mean.

It was last in 2013 when Kolkata had surpassed its monthly average rainfall, wherein it recorded 12 mm. Otherwise in the last 3-4 years, Kolkata has just managed to record traces of rains.
During this time of the year, Kolkata usually witnesses rains either on account of the passage of an active Western Disturbance or any weather system brewing in the Bay of Bengal. However, even in the presence of these two weather phenomena, rain in Kolkata remain on the lighter side. Though it is very uncommon but if at all both the weather systems interact with each other, Kolkata may receive some good showers.

So far in the month, the city has failed to record any rains. In fact, the last weather activity was witnessed on December 11 to the tune of mere 4 mm.
Skymet Weather predicts that in absence of any significant weather system, the city would continue to remain dry for at least another week. Some episodes of shallow fog in few pockets of Kolkata can be anticipated but dense fog which is again occasional and unusual will remain far from enveloping the city.
Thus, Kolkata is expected to relish pleasant and comfortable weather conditions along with bright sunshine during the day.
