The hide and seek of Delhi rains is well known, during the Southwest Monsoon season. After ending on a dry note in the month of July and during the initial days of August, some rains did arrive over the city and its adjoining boundaries, but they remained more or less light in nature.

Moreover, the rains have also remained patchy and short lived. Until now, in the last fifteen days, there has been just a single occasion when Delhi has recorded two-digit rains. That too, in Palam it was on August 7 while it was on August 10 for Safdarjung Observatory.

Thereafter, light rains in parts of Delhi NCR continued and in the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Monday, Delhi’s Safdarjung Observatory recorded 0.6 mm of rains, and Palam recorded 0.3 mm of rains. Today also, while some pockets of Delhi experienced cloudy skies, it rained in the other.

As per Skymet Weather, the axis of Monsoon trough is passing via Delhi and thus, scattered rains are expected over Delhi and NCR on the eve of Independence Day. In fact, Delhi and NCR may get to witness one or two short spell of rain and thundershowers, tomorrow that is on the 72nd Independence Day as well.

Chance of light rains in morning hours cannot be ruled out. However, the rainy spells would be short-lived and light in intensity. Thus, we do not expect any major disruption in the celebrations. Sky would remain partly cloudy but as the day progress, humidity and temperatures would rise leading to discomfort level during afternoon hours. However, morning and evening may remain cool and comfortable.
