Pleasant weather along the West Coast, rains to pace up

The West Coast of India has been observing rains of speckled intensity since past many days and the weather remained pleasant across the region.

These rains can be attributed to the westerlies prevailing over the area as at present, no significant weather system is prevailing along the West coast or in close proximity of the region.

In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Thursday, Mangaluru recorded moderate showers to the tune of 35 mm, Madikeri 32 mm, Honnavar 26 mm, Kozhikode 25 mm, Kannur 18 mm, Harnai 17 mm, Alappuzha 14 mm, Vengurla 13 mm, Mahabaleshwar 8 mm, Bhira 4 mm and Karwar 3 mm of light rain.

As per Skymet Weather, Konkan region is likely to continue witnessing scattered light to moderate rains, whereas Goa will record light spells. But the intensity of rains is expected to pick up over northern parts of the region around August 20-21. This could be due to the westerly movement of a weather system, which is at present over central parts of the country.

Meanwhile for next 24 to 48 hours, moderate rainfall is likely to continue over Kerala and Karnataka. The weather will remain pleasant and breezy all along the coast.

The City of Dreams, Mumbai will also record light rains during the same time frame. During the last 24 hours, both the Santa Cruz Observatory and Colaba Observatory recorded light showers. Mumbai Monsoon showers will pace up around August 20-21.

As of August 17, Konkan and Goa region is rain deficit by 7%, Coastal Karnataka by 26% and Kerala by 30%.
