Parts of Northwest India saw temperatures around 40 degrees for the last week. In fact, thunderstorms with strong surface wind occurred over Delhi and NCR, Punjab, Haryana and adjoining areas of West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan yesterday evening April 27.
A Western Disturbance is over Western Himalayas and a cyclonic circulation is over Central parts of Pakistan and adjoining parts of Rajasthan, West Haryana. A trough is extending up to the south of Delhi. We do not expect the temperature to rise much and they will be in mid 30 to higher thirties. The chances of a heat wave are ruled out.
On-and-off rain and thunderstorm activities are expected to continue over many parts of Delhi NCR, Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan during the next week with one or two intense spells in between. Rain activities will keep the temperatures under check. Heatwave will not make a comeback until at least the first 10 days of May.
Isolated pockets of Northwest India may witness hailstorm activities also. Weather will start clearing up after May 5th and there will be a gradual increase in temperatures.
