People in the plains of North India are having a difficult time trying to beat the cold. Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh are the worst affected areas as minimums are recording close to that in the hills.
Narnaul in Haryana recorded 2.3°C as the minimum temperature on Friday morning, which is 3 degrees below the normal and close to minimum of 3°C recorded in Shimla. Similarly Agra in west Uttar Pradesh saw the minimum settle at 3.3°C, lower than the morning minimum of 4°C recorded in Nainital.
Katra in Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a maximum of 5.7°C on Friday morning, while Bhatinda and Amritsar in Punjab saw the minimum settle a degree lower at 4°C and 4.8°C, respectively. Gaya in Bihar recorded a minimum of 4.5°C, which is marginally lower than 4.6°C recorded in Dharamsala.
Other places in the plains to have recorded minimum temperatures close to 5 degree Celsius are - Chandigarh 5°C, Hisar 5.1°C, Lucknow 5.5°C and Delhi 6.3°C.
This is not all, cold day conditions have also gripped many parts of the northern plains with Punjab being the worst affected. Amritsar recorded 11.9°C as the maximum temperature on Thursday, which is 8 degrees below the normal. While state Capital Chandigarh saw the day temperature settle at 11°C, a whopping 10 degrees below the normal average for the month. Similarly Bhatinda and Ferozepore recorded maximums of 10.2°C and 10.4°C, respectively.
Therefore we can conclude that the plains of North India are observing weather conditions similar to that in the hills, except that snowfall is never a possibility here.
