While the weather in India is expected to remain dry in most parts, Skymet’s Meteorological Division in India hints towards light rain in some parts of the country in the next 24 to 48 hours. Here’s a look:

Jammu and Kashmir - Weather in Jammu and Kashmir in the month of March has been quite erratic, with Srinagar alone receiving over 168 mm of rain. A number of Western Disturbances have been the reason for so much rain. Next 24 to 48 hours will see light rain/snow in the extreme eastern parts of Kashmir. Minimums will be cold, between 5⁰C to 8⁰C. A new Western Disturbance is expected to give a fresh spell of snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir from 3rd April onwards.

Northeast India - Northeast India has entered a phase where full-fledged pre-monsoon showers will begin from April onwards. Till now the weather in Northeast India has been rainy on and off. Last 24 hours saw light rainfall in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh with 5.2 mm of rain in Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh and 5 mm and 4.9 mm of rain in North Lakhimpur and Dibrugarh in Assam respectively. Forecasts suggest rain is expected to continue in Northeast India in view of the trough (weather system) in the region.

West Bengal and Odisha – ‘Kal-Baisakhi’ or thundershowers in West Bengal is a normal feature in the months of March and April. Therefore in next 24 to 48 hours there could be some light thundery activity in coastal West Bengal, i.e. Digha and Haldia and in coastal Odisha, i.e. in Balasore and Kandhamal, as a result of a mix up of dry winds from the land and warm and moist winds from the Arabian Sea.

The last time West Bengal witnessed good amounts of rain was last week, when Kolkata, the capital city received 15 mm of rain on 25th March. On the other hand Balasore in Odisha had recorded 35 mm of heavy rain on the 5th of March.

Madhya Maharashtra and South interior - Some places like Bangalore, Chitradurga in south interior Karnataka and Buldhana and Nanded in Madhya Maharashtra could experience some thundery build up towards the later part of the day, tomorrow or day after because of a wind discontinuity in the states. However, this may not bring any relief from the day’s heat. The maximums in these parts will record between 36⁰C to 40⁰C.
