Flooding rain in Odisha--Scroll 600

Severe Cyclonic Storm Phethai has been affecting the state of Odisha since the last two days. In fact, during the last 24 hours, light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells were witnessed over parts of Odisha especially the southern districts.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, Bhawanipatna 37 mm, followed by Jharsuguda 21 mm, Sambalpur 17 mm, Baripada 12 mm, Sundergarh 10 mm, Angul 6 mm, Koraput 4 mm and Paradip 3 mm.

At present, the Cyclonic Storm has made its landfall crossing Andhra Pradesh Coast and further it is likely to move across the entire state of Odisha.

This system is expected to move in north/northeast direction. Thus, we expect widespread rain and thundershower activities to occur over many parts of Odisha during the next 24 hours.

Moreover, we expect these rains to continue for the next two days with varied intensity, as after 24 hours when the system will move away it will continue to give good rains over adjoining state of West Bengal.

Places such as Koraput, Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada are expected to witnessed heavy rainfall activity during the next 24 hours.

Fishermen are advised not to venture along the South Odisha Coast and also advised not to venture into deep sea areas of Bay of Bengal. In fact, those who are out on Deep Sea areas are advised to return to Coast to by tonight.
