Pest attack in crops likely as dry, humid weather to continue in Mumbai, Dahanu

February 16, 2018 3:28 PM |

Mumbai Rains to remain light in intensity now

Dry and warm weather continues to rule the state of Maharashtra. While some rains occurred in the last 48 hours over Vidarbha and Marathwada region, these showers escaped Konkan and Goa region.

It is the prevalence of continuous dry weather conditions that resulted in the temperatures across most parts of Konkan and Goa region to scale up significantly. Both the maximums and minimums of the region had witnessed a rise in the last 48 hours. In fact, the maximums across the region have reached close to the 35-degree mark.

In the last 24 hours, the maximums of Dahanu scaled up by 7 degrees followed by Mumbai and Ratnagiri that witnessed the maximums rising by 5 degrees each. Vengurla also witnessed the daytime high 4 degrees above the normal.

The reason for the increase in temperatures as per Skymet Weather can be attributed to the prevalence of easterly winds, coming from the land. These winds are relatively warmer in nature and thus the temperatures are mounting.

Initially, the temperatures were under check as the winds were blowing from northeast and northerly direction which were comparatively cooler.

As of now also, not much changes are anticipated in the temperatures of Konkan and Goa region, but both the day and night temperatures would remain on a higher side.

However, a marginal drop in the temperatures is expected around February 19 and 20 but thereafter, they will once again start rising. Hence, it can be said that very warm, humid and uneasy days are likely to continue over the coastal parts of Konkan and Goa region while the interiors would remain warm and sunny for the next 24 hours.

Impact of this weather on agriculture:

Due to variations in temperature and increased humidity in past few days due to cloudy weather, farmers are advised to stay vigilant for flower and fruit drop and pest attack in Mango and Cashew Orchard. Irrigate the summer crops as per need.
