July is one of the rainiest months for most parts of the country during the Southwest Monsoon. Let us have a look at the performance of Monsoon across the metro cities of India
Monsoon in Mumbai
While Mumbai witnessed surplus Monsoon rains in June, Monsoon showers in July have been lowest in last 10 years. The city recorded 359 mm of rain, way below the monthly normal rainfall of 800 mm. Initial half of the month was majorly dry, while second half of the month saw some good spells of rain. Unlike usual Mumbai rainfall, city did not witness 3-digit rain on any single day.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, August is also expected to commence on a poor note. No heavy showers are expected to lash the city in coming days but light to moderate rain will continue for next one week.
Monsoon in Kolkata
July ended on a positive note for the city, which recorded 665.4 mm of rain during the month against the monthly average of 400 mm. This was the second highest rainfall in last 10 years. Kolkata has witnessed Monsoon showers on every single day with varying intensity, except on July 12.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall had lashed Kolkata during the first half of the month. Spell of good rain also continued during the later half of the month as well. As per the forecast by Skymet, August will also begin with moderate to heavy Monsoon showers.
Monsoon in Delhi
Weather in Delhi has been fairly good this July, with state recording 235.4 mm of rain. The state had surpassed its monthly average rainfall of 214.2 mm during the initial half of the month on account of heavy Monsoon rains. While, second half of the month received patchy rains but the partly cloudy to cloudy weather kept the maximum temperatures under control.
According to Skymet, light to moderate rain will continue over the national capital for next 48 hours.
Monsoon in Chennai
July is not the rainiest month for Chennai, thus the city does not witness spells of heavy rains. However, July 2015 has fared well. City has recorded 131.9 mm of rain against the monthly normal of 100.3 mm. Skymet forecasts light to moderate rain will continue over the city during next 24 to 48 hours. With this hot and humid weather will prevail over Chennai.
