On and off thunderstorm and dust storm with light rain have occurred over Delhi and NCR during first half of June. The pre-Monsoon activities are generally accompanied by dust storms and are not as severe as they should have been. Even though Monsoon reaches around June 28-29, premonsoon activities continue in varied intensity.
The normal average rainfall for month of June is 82.2 mm. Till now only 2.1 mm rainfall has occurred over the city. We have to wait and see if Delhi is able to cross its monthly average rainfall or not keeping in mind the deficit of rainfall in sight till June 20.
These recent pre-Monsoon activities in Delhi and NCR were due to troughs running sometime from north Haryana and sometimes from Punjab up to Gangetic West Bengal. These troughs were oscillating from north and south and occasionally making a visit to Delhi.
And now the trough is shifting towards foothills and there is high levels moisture in the atmosphere. So now we can expect few dust storms and thunderstorms to continue for next 24 hours.
