July 10, 2017 11:35 AM | Skymet Weather Team

Since the last few days, many parts of Bihar and adjoining areas have been receiving heavy to very heavy showers. In span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Forbesganj recorded 97.5 mm of rain, followed by Patna at 68.7 mm, Bhagalpur 2.7 mm, Gaya 4.2 mm and Muzaffarpur 0.6 mm.

According to Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation is seen persisting over Bihar and adjoining areas. A trough of low pressure is also seen running from this system across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar up to Gangetic West Bengal. Due to this, moisture incursion will increase over the region resulting in cloud development. Hence, heavy to very heavy rains are likely to continue at few places over Bihar during the next 48 hours.

Though on and off heavy rains have been lashing Bihar but the state is still battling rain deficiency. As on July 9, Bihar is rain deficient by 14%.  However, with good rains in offing, we expect to this deficiency to reduce and state may become rain surplus after 2-3 days.

Nepal is also likely to continue with  heavy to very heavy rains. As a result, chances of flooding over foothills of northern parts of Bihar cannot be ruled out. The weather conditions over this state are likely to remain pleasant for next few days.
