Southwest Monsoon made a delayed onset over Delhi and the NCR region. However, good rains lashed Delhi during the first few days of July. In fact, the national capital recorded more rains in few days of July than in the entire June.
While Safdarjung observatory in Delhi recorded a mere 33.5 mm of rainfall against its monthly average of 82.2 mm in June, 82 mm of rainfall was observed until July 4. Since then, the city has been receiving on and off patchy rainfall.
Patchy rains were also observed over Delhi and the NCR region yesterday as well. A few areas including parts of Noida, Faridabad, Gurugram, Race Course, East Delhi, Mayur Vihar received short spell of rain during the evening hours. Some areas also recorded good rains for a short duration.
Currently, overcast sky conditions are being observed over many parts of the national capital. In fact, light rain has begun over many parts of the city as well. The national capital will continue to receive on and off patchy rainfall during the next 24 hours. Rain spread and intensity is expected to increase slightly July 14 onward.
However, no major relief for a prolonged period is likely from prevailing hot and humid conditions during the next few days. Weather conditions will remain hot during the absence of any rainfall activity. Cloudy conditions are expected to prevail over the national capital today.
