But in the last couple of days a little change has been observed in the nature of rainfall. From being patchy, the Monsoon rains have become widespread. Several places have received good rain but in varying intensity.

For instance, Ayanagar in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday recorded 71 mm of rain while Noida observed 23 mm of rain.

Similarly, Pitampura and Mungeshpur observed 64 mm and 69 mm of rain , respectively, while Lodhi Road and Gurgaon witnessed 27 mm and 39 mm of rain.

Updated on August 9, 11:40 AM (IST): More rain expected in Delhi

Good widespread rain has been observed in most parts of Delhi-NCR in last 24 hours. Though, the city had been observing rain for the last few days, the nature of rain was patchy and not widespread.

Presently, the Monsoon trough is south of Delhi and is passing through Narnaul and Gwalior, but it will keep oscillating between North and South.

Due to the Monsoon trough, the city will continue to receive rain over many areas for another 24 hours. However, the temperatures are not expected to fall significantly but the residents will get some relief from the humid conditions.

In the last 24 hours, fairly widespread rain has been recorded in Delhi-NCR. Ridge has received 25 mm of rain, while Lodhi Road has witnessed a good 36.2 mm of rainfall. Also, Palam and Safdarjung observatories have witnessed 49.4 mm and 30.2 mm of rain, respectively.

This rainy spell is expected to continue for the entire day with reduced intensity and brief breaks in between. However, Delhiites may see some sunshine tomorrow.

Updated on August 8, 05:00 PM (IST):  Patchy rain to continue over Delhi

Delhi has been witnessing patchy Monsoon showers for the last few days. And according to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, this trend is likely to continue for another 24 to 48 hours as well.

The Monsoon trough has now shifted northwards along the foothills of Himalayas and is presently running north of Delhi. As per Skymet, any oscillation of this trough affects the weather over the national capital.

Moreover, a cyclonic circulation is also prevailing over North Punjab and adjoining areas and this system will further enhance the weather activity over Delhi.

In wake of this, both the maximum and minimum temperatures that are settling close to normal will record a marginal drop.

Updated on August 6, 12:00 PM (IST): Patchy rain to continue in Delhi-NCR for next few days

The rainfall distribution in Delhi has been patchy for the last two days. On Wednesday, the Safdarjung observatory recorded 15 mm of rainfall, while Palam received 10.7 mm.

Ayanagar in a span of 24 hours, from 8:30 am on Wednesday recorded heavy rain of 70 mm. Hindon and Pitampura observed 52 mm and 30 mm of rain, respectively. The Delhi University area and Ridge also witnessed 27 and 28.6 mm of rain, respectively during the same period. Thus, we can say that rainfall was fairly widespread with good showers in few parts.

At present, the maximum temperature in Delhi-NCR is around 35°C. In view of such patchy nature of Monsoon rains in Delhi, humidity in the air has been quite high. This sultry weather has been holding onto the temperatures and not letting them fall.

The average day temperature in Delhi during the month of August is 33.6°C, while the minimum settles close to 26.4°C. However, day temperatures will remain few notches higher for next few days.

The start of August has not been bad either, with patchy rains being observed in Delhi-NCR for the first three days. And looking at the weather models, there are chances of more isolated rain in the capital till August 6. From August 7 the intensity of rain will pick up and sustain till August 9.

Currently there are multiple weather systems like Western Disturbance, Monsoon trough and depression near Delhi and its adjoining areas, which are likely to interact with each other and give rain in Delhi till August 9. However, the nature of rain will continue to remain patchy.

Meanwhile, the temperatures in the city have been recording close to normal or marginally below normal. However, on Monday the day temperature had risen a few notches to record 36.1°C.
