Northeast India has remained one of the most deficient regions in the country. This year, Monsoon rains have not been as intense as they are every season over Northeast India. In fact, the rainfall deficiency has constantly been mounting.
However, for the past few days, the region has been witnessing good Monsoon rains. Each day, the intensity of these rains keeps on increasing. A few isolated areas have also been receiving rains in three digits as well.
While rains have been lashing almost the entire Northeast Indian region. However, the state of Arunachal Pradesh does stand out as many areas here have been receiving very heavy showers as well.
One such city is Pasighat where the saga of three digit rains has begun. While Pasighat received over 190 mm of rain a day before, intensity has increased during the last 24 hours. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Pasighat has recorded a whopping 265 mm of rain.
These rains can be attributed to the movement of the axis of the Monsoon trough. The eastern arm of the trough has moved northwards and is currently extending up to Northeast India.
These Monsoon showers are likely to continue over the region for another three to four days. The possibility of a few very heavy spells cannot be ruled out.
