Parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka surpass monthly average rainfall

Due to multiple weather systems in last few days, several places in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka have received good showers. Most of the places have already surpassed the average rainfall for the month of May, in just first 13 days of the month. So much so that, places like Coimbatore, Karaikal and Madurai have received more than 100% rainfall.

Multiple weather systems that brought continuous rain over Peninsular India, in last few days, includes the cyclonic circulation over southwest Bay of Bengal that kept lingering on over the region. Another cyclonic circulation over coastal Karnataka also brought rain over the state and adjoining Kerala region.

 

Rain in Tamil Nadu

The monthly average rainfall for Chennai is 31.5 mm, whereas the city has received 53.4 mm of rain till now. Accordingly, rainfall in the city is 70% excess. The table below shows few other places which have recorded more rain than the monthly average.

Pre-Monsoon rain will continue over the Peninsular India, but with reduced intensity.
