During the initial days of November, the northwest plains of the country saw the worst smog in last many years. However, after November 8, temperatures over the entire Northwest parts of the country started dipping, clearing up the smog as well.
Although people opined that it was the arrival of winters but the real reason for the temperatures dropping over most parts of the northwest region of the country can be associated with the Western Disturbance which has affected the western Himalayas on November 13 and 14.
Moreover, this Western Disturbance-induced cyclonic circulation over Punjab and adjoining areas blocked the flow of cool north-westerly winds due to which minimum temperatures rose.
As of now, again the northwesterly flow of winds have commenced. This could possibly lead to further dropping of the temperatures by 2-3 degrees over most parts of the Punjab, Haryana and Delhi including north Rajasthan as well.
Another Western Disturbance which is at present seen over north Afghanistan and adjoining Pakistan has once again induced a cyclonic circulation over western parts of Rajasthan.
Due to this, a steep fall in temperatures is though not expected but winter chill will still be felt during early morning and late night hours. Day temperatures are also expected to fall marginally but weather will remain dry, warm and sunny.
As per Skymet Weather, now, mist or shallow fog will also make an appearance over parts of Punjab, Haryana including some parts of west Uttar Pradesh as well.
