Both the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala are in normal category wherein Kerala is rain surplus by 12% and Tamil Nadu by 15%.

The Southwest Monsoon 2019 has turned out to be good for both these states and in the past 24 hours as well, fairly widespread moderate showers with one or two heavy spells have been experienced over the southern parts of Kerala, along with South and coastal Tamil Nadu.

Like for instance in the past 24 hours from 0830 hours IST of yesterday to 0830 hours IST of today, Madurai recorded 11.5 mm of rains while Palayankottai saw 17.2 mm of rainfall. Kozhikode recorded 4.8 mm of rainfall while Kottayam saw 29.6 mm of rains.

Presently, a Cyclonic Circulation over the Comorin area off South Tamil Nadu coast is held responsible for giving these good rain activities. Now we see moderate to heavy rains to continue over South Kerala and parts of Tamil Nadu during the next 24 to 48 hours while rest parts are likely to see scattered rain and thundershowers.

Places like Kochi, Alappuzha, Thiruvananthapuram, Punalur, Kodaikanal, Madurai, Tiruchchirappalli, Karaikal, Atiramapattinam may get to see good rain wherein light rains accompanied with one or two moderate spells can be seen over Chennai.
