Parts of Karnataka observe good rain

Pre-Monsoon lashes parts of KarnatakaJust before the arrival of Monsoon, pre-Monsoon activity over peninsular India becomes intense. Karnataka is one such state which has been observing good pre-Monsoon showers.

On account of wind discontinuity and cyclonic circulation along the west coast off Karnataka and Kerala, there has been some significant weather activity over the region. In the past 24 hours,Karnatakahas received fairly widespread rain. Isolated heavy showers have also been observed in the state.

Wind discontinuity is a marked feature in the southern parts of India during the pre-Monsoon period. While some pockets in Karnataka received heavy rain, other parts of the state observed light to moderate showers due to the weather system.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday,Chitradurgarecorded 67.8 mm of rain,Bangalorereceived 18 mm of rain. Honavar witnessed 26 mm of rain,Bijapurobserved 19 mm rain. Gadag and Mangalore received light rain of 4.8 mm and 4 mm, respectively.

Bangalore also received 18 mm of rain, which took the total amount of rainfall observed during the month, so far to 177.2 mm against the monthly average of 110 mm. This figure has broken the 10-year-old record of 164.2 mm, observed in May 2006. Some more rain is expected in the state in next 24 to 48 hours.
