As reiterated by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, Some good amount of rain has been recorded in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand in last 24 hours. From 8.30 am on Wednesday, Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh recorded 20 mm of rain. Dharamsala witnessed 14.4 mm of rain, while the state capital Shimla and Kullu observed 10.3 mm and 16.4 mm of rain, respectively.
In Uttarakhand also some places received rain, though it was light in intensity. For instance Mukteshwar recorded 8.3 mm of rain in last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Wednesday. Nainital and Tehri also saw rainfall of 6 mm and 7.3 mm, respectively. Some places in the foothills like Haridwar recorded 2 mm of light rain, while Dehradun observed 5 mm of rain.
The rainfall in the region is an outcome of the winter systems still prevalent in Jammu and Kashmir. Usually during winters the Western Disturbances track more northwards impacting Jammu and Kashmir the most, followed by Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
However, the system is tracking a little southwards at the moment due to which Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are observing some rain. As the system has been tracking southwards, places like Punjab, Haryana, north Rajasthan and Delhi will also receive some rain.
The spell of rain is expected to continue for another 24 hours before the rainfall reduces and the skies clear up. However, weathermen at skymet say that light rainfall activity is expected to continue in the hills till April 8.
