The situation in flood-hit Paris has worsened further, with the River Seine peaking at about four metres above the danger water mark on Monday. In fact, no relief was felt on Tuesday as flood waters continued to threaten the city and towns downstream. Although weathermen are of the view that rains would now reduce but swollen river remains the cause of concern.

Inundation could already be seen over most of the roads, railways, streets and walking paths in Paris along the river.
The flood level rose to 5.86 meters, which was just short of levels that were recorded during the June 2016 flooding. During this time, river had peaked to 6.1 meters against the river's all-time highest crest of 8.62 meters that was recorded on January 28, 1910.
According to weathermen, river levels are only expected to fall gradually in the coming days. We can light showers from Tuesday night that could continue on Wednesday as well. Some additional showers are also possible this weekend.
The capital city of France, Paris has seen exceptionally heavy rainfall this month. Till January 28, it had recorded 167.4 mm, which is already more than double the normal rainfall that falls during January.
South of Paris, Villeneuve-Saint-Georges that are located along the banks of Seine, is one of the worst hit by floods. Reportedly, over 150 residents have been evacuated as floodwaters submerged the streets.
Damage has been reported in about 242 towns situated along the River Seine and its tributaries in recent weeks.
