Parched Mumbai finally gets a breather as rains make way

After escaping Mumbai for over seven months, rains have finally appeared over the entertainment capital. According to Skymet Weather, rain bearing clouds engulfed the city during the late evening hours, with pre-Monsoon showers following soon.

At present, several parts of Mumbai are reporting light rain and thundershowers of varied intensity along with thunderstorm and lightning strikes. Wind speed has increased significantly and are now blowing to the tune of 30 kmph to 40 kmph.

These rains can be termed as the maiden spell of pre-Monsoon rains and thundershowers over Mumbai. The weather has gone extremely pleasant, ushering in huge relief for Mumbaikars that have been battling hot and humid weather since very long time now.

Reason behind this sudden change in weather can be attributed to the formation of a trough from Bihar to South Madhya Maharashtra. This trough has been attracting humid winds from Arabian Sea over Mumbai.

Day maximums have already been settling above normal, which then combined with increase moisture led to development of convective clouds over the city. Weathermen predict that these pre-Monsoon showers will be of short duration but intense in nature.

However, this spell will not have any impact on the day temperatures tomorrow that will once again start rising over the city after the sunrise on Saturday.

Mumbai has remained absolutely dry, with city recording last spell of rain on October 7, 2016.
