Rains have remained absent from Maharashtra almost the entire May. In fact, temperatures have remained on the higher side resulting in heatwave conditions over several parts. So much so that the capital city, Mumbai could not receive any rains.
However, now a rainy spell is in the offing for both Coastal and Interior parts of the state in the coming days. In fact these rains will be prolonged giving that much needed relief from the ongoing weather conditions. While these rains will be prolonged, the spread will remain scattered.
Scattered rain will begin to lash the interior parts of Maharashtra from June 2. These rains will be prolonged and coastal areas will continue to receive rains until May 7.
A trough is likely to form over parts of Marathwada and Karnataka region which will later become a cyclonic circulation. This weather system will give rain over interior Maharashtra.
Also, a weather system in the Arabian sea which is likely to become more marked in the coming days will move along the coast shifting the rain belt over Kerala and Karnataka. Furthermore, around June 4, coastal areas of Maharashtra will also begin to receive rains.
These rains will continue until around June 7, thereafter, the rain belt will shift further upwards. This time, rains will occur over almost the entire state of Maharashtra.
