Parched Conditions To Continue For Delhi, Major Respite Only Next Week

September 5, 2022 3:27 PM |

National capital is going through rough weather with sultry conditions. Month of August was one of the driest in over 2 decades.  With persistent dry weather, mercury has shot up to high 30’s at most places, including the Palam observatory scaling 38°C. Parts of Delhi like, Pitampura and Najafgarh were the highest in the region with 39.6°C and 39.4°C, respectively. High humidity and scorching heat with day temperatures 4°C to 5°C above the normal have led to sweltering conditions across the city and suburbs.

The national capital registered 3rd successive week with ‘ large deficit’ rainfall. Between 11th-17thAug -deficit of 82% : 18th-24thAug- deficit of 93% : 25th-31st Aug-deficit of 77%. The 4th week in a row between 01st- 07thSep will be no different and Delhiites have to bear with oppressive and humid conditions. No good news for the next 3 days at all, to start with. Major relief could come only next week.

Western end of the monsoon trough is weak and running in the close proximity of Delhi.  Monsoon low pressure is likely to come over Bay of Bengal shortly. As it comes closer to the coast, monsoon trough will shift southward. The national capital will have sweep of easterly winds from 08thonward, gradually becoming stronger over the weekend.  Monsoon trough will remain south of Delhi for the subsequent one week, till 15thSeptember.

Very light, patchy and isolated showers are expected from 08th and 10thSep. As the monsoon low travels from Gujarat to Rajasthan between 11th and 14thSeptember, the trough keeps coming closer and the easterly stream becomes stronger. Intensity and spread of showers will increase during this period. Mid-September showers, close to the normal dates of withdrawal, are more sporadic and unpredictable.  Precise and accurate forecast with matching timelines will be feasible, around 08thSep.
