Rain in Chennai rainsChennai has been battling hot and humid weather conditions for over a month now. All thanks to the absence of any weather system, due to which rains remained far and few.

According to Skymet Weather, weather conditions are conducive for some pre-monsoon activity now. At present, convective clouds can be seen over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and nearby areas and thunderstorm may follow soon.

Live status of Lightning and thunderstorm across IndiaWeather models are indicating nearby areas of North Chennai may see some weather activity in terms of thundershowers or thunderstorms during the late evening hours. But the system may escape rest of the areas of the city.

These activity is likely to usher in slight relief from hot and humid weather conditions but the relief would be a momentary one.

As per weathermen, a north-south trough is seen extending Telangana to Sri Lanka across Tamil Nadu. With this, humid winds have been blowing over parts of Tamil Nadu. This has resulted in development of connective clouds of the region.

Being a rain shadow area, the state capital does not record much rains. However, development of any weather system in the Bay of Bengal or nearby do give some pre- Monsoon activity over Chennai. But this has not been a scenario over Chennai, this season.
