Heatwave continues to grip most parts of Maharashtra, particularly, Vidarbha. However, it has abated from some pockets of Madhya Maharashtra. Isolated pockets of South Konkan even witnessed light rains with scattered light to moderate rains over Vidarbha as well.

On Wednesday, the maximum temperatures recorded by Chandrapur stands at a whopping 47.9ºC, Bramhapuri 46.9ºC, Nagpur 46.3ºC, Wardha 45.7ºC, and Gondia 44.5ºC.

Additionally, rain activity is likely to reduce over Konkan. However, isolated rains are still possible over South Konkan. Isolated thunderstorm activity is also possible over North Madhya Maharashtra in next one or two days.

North coastal Maharashtra including Mumbai is expected to start receiving pre-Monson activities around June 3, and till then, isolated drizzle may occur.

At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:

Farmers are advised to apply light and frequent irrigation to the standing crops to cope up with the excess evaporative demand due to heat wave conditions and to undertake mulching with straw to conserve soil moisture.

In South Konkan, farmers are advised to continue nursery bed preparation for kharif rice and Ragi. For rice and nagli nursery, farmers should prepare raised beds. Farmers should also harvest remaining matured mango fruits before 10 in the morning and after 4 in the evening.

Farmers are also recommended to complete harvesting of matured summer crops and keep at safe storage in the wake of rains. For the farmers of Madhya Maharashtra, soil testing should be carried out to know the micronutrient content.
