The last two weeks i.e. from September 6 to 12, and September 13 to 19, deficient rains have been recorded.
In fact, the second week was much poorer than the first week, as the first week was rain deficient by 8% and by the end of second week Pan India deficiency had increased to 10%.
Let’s have a look at the rainfall performance during these two weeks over different parts of the country:
1st week: 6 – 12 September
During this week, South Peninsula was one the poorest performer as this region was largely deficient by 72%. Meanwhile, East and Northeast India showed satisfactory performance. Sikkim/Sub-Himalayan West Bengal sub-division was the best performer with a surplus of 69%. However, in North India states of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh remained marginally deficient.
2nd week: 13 – 19 September
During the second week area wise, 80% of the country was deficient to largely deficient. Unlike the last week, Northeast India showed poor performance. Northwest and Central India were the worst performers among all. South India showed a little better performance as compared to the first week. In fact, Tamil Nadu and the drought-stricken region of Rayalaseema recorded heavy rainfall activity over few districts.
Meanwhile, the rain deficiency over Maharashtra, Kerala and Gujarat remained unchanged during both the weeks.
Deep-depression in the Bay of Bengal is going to cause a rainy spell covering most parts of the country during the next 5-6 days. thus, we can say that the ensuing week is going to show better performance.
