Tamil Nadu’s famous hill stations of Ooty and Kodaikanal can be explored at any time of the year. However, if you want to witness the beauty of rain before Northeast Monsoon takes over in about a week, then this is just the right time!

Ooty or Udhagamandalam is a part of the Nilgiri hills situated at a height of 7500 ft. While, Kodaikanal, a plateaued area, belongs to Palani Hills with a height of 7100 ft.

Although the state of Tamil Nadu is a rain shadow area, the hills in the state get influenced by Southwest Monsoon and experience good amounts of rainfall throughout season.

As the Southwest Monsoon is in its retreating phase, the weather activities would slow down now. And this is the time when the beauty of both the hills blooms as rains complement the weather.

Northeast Monsoon is most likely to touch Tamil Nadu by October 20. It (Northeast Monsoon) influences the region more than Southwest Monsoon in terms of heavy rainfall. It rains nearly 15 days during every month of the season over the duo hills, however, the intensity reduces as we move from October to December.

The temperatures start reducing from October and touch the lowest degrees in the month of December. The minimums mainly remain in the double digits, however, there are occasions when they drop to 10 degrees Celsius.

Although the two hills experience extremely cold weather from November to January, it never snows here. In fact, the temperatures turn to sub-zero only in exceptional situations.

Both the hill stations never experience a hot day even during the peak of summers. The day temperature during this period hovers close to a comfortable 21 degrees.
