Over 85 Dead due to Floods, Landslides in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur

The northeastern states have been witnessing severe harsh weather conditions since the last many days. The current floods and landslides situation were triggered by incessant rains in Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Assam, where many major numbers of Brahmaputra's tributaries flow. A total of 58 districts has been affected due to landslides and floods in Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.

Since the span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Tinsukia recorded 62 mm of rain, Silchar 52.1 mm, Guwahati 8.9 mm and Pasighat 6mm.

As the Forest Officials stated, that "more than half of the area is drowned and looking at the severe situation the animals are being shifted to a safer place". Over 85 people have lost their lives in the floods that have hit 58 districts in the northeastern states of India.

The situation in the Northeast states has turned from bad to worse as the rising water levels of the Brahmaputra, Barak and their tributaries have left over 85 people dead. The most affected area is the Kaziranga National Park in Assam, which is Swamped with rain flooded Brahmaputra river. Incessant rain in Assam has left large parts of Kaziranga National Park submerged in water.

As per Skymet Weathermen, during the next three to four days, almost dry weather conditions are likely to prevail over northeastern states, particularly in Assam. With this, flood like situations is expected to remain under control. Also, due to clear weather conditions, rescue and relief camp operations will be able to work smoothly. However, rains are likely to commence once again over Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh by July 19 but of lesser intensity, this time.
