mumbai-rainsMumbai rains remained heavy during the entire second week of July. So much so that during that period, the city recorded rains over 50 mm for five continuous days. In fact, three-digit rainfall was also recorded on one of the days.

However, after July 23, heavy rainfall activity did take a backseat andMumbaihas since then been witnessing only light rainfall activity. If rainfall statistics are to be seen, since July 24, the city has not even recorded rains in double digits.

The last 24 hours were no different and the city of dreams witnessed light rains only. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, the Santa Cruz observatory recorded a mere 5 mm of rain. As far as the Colaba observatory is concerned, 8 mm of rains were witnessed during the same period.

The reduction in rainfall activity is attributed to the weakening of the off shore trough which was responsible for giving good rains over the city.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, light to moderate showers are expected to continue over the city of Mumbai during the next 24 hours. These weather conditions will be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which persists over the Gujarat region. However, the possibility of heavy rains is highly unlikely over the region.
