Many parts of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh are witnessing light to moderate rain activities. In fact, rain was heavy over Vidarbha and Marathwada during the last 24 hours. Delay in withdrawal of monsoon over Central India has adversely impacted the harvesting of kharif crop.
Rain may continue over most part of Maharashtra until October 9. Monsoon will start withdrawing from North Konkan and Goa, North Madhya Maharashtra, and Vidarbha from October 10 onward and in subsequent 2 to 3 days, Monsoon will withdraw from entire state of Maharashtra.
Scattered rainfall may continue over Madhya Pradesh until October 5. There will be significant decrease in rains over western and northern parts of Madhya Pradesh from October 7. and by October 9 monsoon is expected to withdraw from entire Madhya Pradesh as well.
Farmers of both states are waiting anxiously for rains to stop. We think they must wait for another 4 to 5 days to commence harvesting.
