East and West Rajasthan have been observing very good rains this Monsoon season. The months of June and July ended with rainfall surplus for both the regions. In fact July was the leanest period in terms of rainfall for the entire country but West Rajasthan observed a cumulative rainfall surplus of 117% by the end of July, which is more than 78% observed in June.
August has also panned out in a similar way for Rajasthan so far. During last 24 hours, several places in the state have observed good amounts of rain. For instance, Ajmer in a span of 24 hour from 8:30 am on Saturday has received 74.4 mm of rain, while Churu and Jaisalmer observed 39 mm and 34 mm of rain, respectively during the same period. Kota and Jopdhpur also received 30 mm and 29 mm of rain, respectively.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, most places in West Rajasthan like Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Barmer will become dry but east and south east Rajasthan will continue to receive good rain for another 24 hours. But in next 48 hours the rainfall activity in the entire state will reduce to become minimal. Thereafter, the weather will become dry with mainly clear skies.
As the axis of Monsoon trough has already shifted north of Delhi and is expected to move further north, towards the foothills of the Himalayas, dry weather conditions are likely to prevail over most parts of Northwest India.
However, this will not have an adverse impact on the farm sector of the state as sufficient rains have already occurred. As of August 15, West Rajasthan was observing cumulative rainfall surplus of 81, while East Rajasthan was excess by 21%.
