For the last one week Delhiites have been sweltering under very warm conditions as the temperatures in the city have consistently been recording 4-5 degrees above the normal average for the month. The maximum temperature on Sunday settled at 28.3°C, which is way above the normal average of 23.6°C. Similarly on February 19, the day temperature had settled at 29.3°C, which is 6 degrees above the normal and the highest for the week.
The minimum temperatures in the city have also been following the same trend. For instance on February 20 the night temperature recorded 18.5°C, which is the highest for the week. The lowest minimum recorded in the week was 14.4, which is also 4 degrees above the normal average of 10.2 degrees Celsius.
Another factor that is making the weather conditions in the city even worse are the warm southeasterly winds. Rainfall in the city has also been very minimal during this month so far. Delhi has received only 2 mm of rain against the monthly average of 20 mm, which is considered to be the rainiest winter month for the capital.
And the woes of the people don’t seem to end very soon. Though there is some rain expected in the city from Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, the spell of rain will bring about only a marginal change in the temperatures. Some respite can be expected only during the start of next month as a prolonged spell of rain is likely in the city.
