While Summer has started showing its signs over most parts of the country, hilly states of North India is still enjoying cold weather. All thanks to the prolonged rainy spell over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the last few days.

As per Skymet Weather, a Western Disturbance is moving across Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining North Pakistan. It has also induced a cyclonic circulation over North Pakistan and adjoining Punjab region.

In the wake of this weather system, rain and snow made an appearance over few districts of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. In span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Kupwara recorded 24.3 mm of rain, Pahalgam 10.8 mm, Srinagar 6.8 mm, and Keylong witnessed 3 mm.

As per Skymet Weather, the weather system is now likely to move eastwards and hence, rain activity is expected to reduce over both the regions. However, scattered rain and thundershowers are still expected to occur over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh during the next 24 hours, reducing thereafter.

The higher reaches of both the states stands a chance of witnessing light snowfall. Thunder squalls are also possible in the lower parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh also including parts of Uttarakhand. Drop in temperatures is likely once the system moves away.

These rainy and snowy spells have continued lashing the three hilly states of North India spanning from January until the month of March. On account of the Western Disturbances that affects the Western Himalayas, rain and snow have engulfed the hilly states of North India during almost this entire winters.
