At present, Gujarat is the most rain deficient region in the country. The Gujarat region is 76 percent rain deficient while Saurashtra and Kutch region is rain deficient by 65 percent.
On and off rain has been occurring over the Saurashtra region particularly in the southern parts of Saurashtra and Monsoon has also covered almost more than half of Saurashtra with a delay of about 10 to 12 days. Surat, Valsad, Dwarka, Veraval, Porbandar and Amreli are a few pockets of the state that are likely to observe light to moderate rains.
However, most parts of the Kutch region will still remain devoid of rains. It, therefore, can be expected that the state is likely to witness scattered rainfall till July 3.
During last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, only a few regions of the state have observed light rainy spells. These regions are displayed in the table:
As per Skymet Weather, good rains are expected around July 8 or 9. During this time, entire Gujarat state will receive light to moderate rainfall. In fact possibility of few places observing heavy rainfall also cannot be ruled out completely.
These showers are likely to continue for 4 to 5 days and will be a great contributing factor in bringing down the rain deficiency as well.
