Intermittent rain in Chandigarh, Amritsar, Karnal and Ambala

March 11, 2019 10:52 AM | Skymet Weather Team

A series of Western Disturbances which commenced in the beginning of January are continuing in the month of March as well. Now, back to back Western Disturbances are expected to approach the Western Himalayas.

At present, a Western Disturbance is over North Pakistan and adjoining area. It has already induced a Cyclonic Circulation over West Rajasthan and a trough is extending up to South West Uttar Pradesh. Under the influence of these weather systems, we expect scattered rain and thundershower activity to occur over Punjab and Haryana in the next 24 hours. Cities like Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Chandigarh, Ambala, Yamunagar, Karnal, Hisar and Rohtak will be a witness to these rains. Intensity of rains will be more over Punjab, particularly over the northern parts of the state. This, however, will be a fast-moving system due to which the weather will become dry by tomorrow.

Another WD will approach the area on March 13. This will bring along rain and thundershower activities in parts of Punjab and Haryana. Intermittent weather activity will continue in the region until the evening of March 14, when the weather systems move in easterly direction leading to clear conditions. Minimum temperatures are set to rise during the next two days in both the states.

From March 15 onward northerly winds will commence, which will be instrumental in pulling down the night temperatures by 3 to 4 degrees. But as we are proceeding towards the middle of the month, the drop in temperatures will not be effective in terms of the chill.
