On and off pre Monsoon rains to continue in Assam, Arunachal, Nagaland

April 9, 2018 2:13 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The northeastern states of the country have been recording on and off pre-Monsoon rains for the last many days. These pre-Monsoon showers were accompanied with squally winds and lightning strikes in parts.

However, the rainfall spread was much more over Assam in comparison with other states of Northeast India.

In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Sunday, Kailashahar recorded moderate rains to the tune of 27.2 mm, Lengpui 22 mm, Imphal 19 mm, Kohima 9 mm, Golaghat 5 mm, Cherrapunji 2 mm, Dhubri 1 mm and Pasighat recorded some traces of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, a trough from West Rajasthan is extending up to West Assam across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal. Moreover, a cyclonic circulation is also seen over West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh.

In addition to this, the humid winds from the Bay of Bengal are also feeding moisture over the northeastern states of the country. Therefore, we expect on and off rain and thundershowers to continue over the ‘seven sisters’ state until April 12.

In fact, light to moderate rain and thundershowers with squally winds are expected at isolated parts over Dimapur, Kohima, Longleng, Mokokchung, Peren, Mon, Wokha, Zunheboto, Kiphire, Phek, and Tuensang districts of Nagaland during the next 4 days as well.

Thereafter, though the intensity of these rains would reduce, the weather would still not become completely dry. During pre-Monsoon, localized weather systems normally develop which gives isolated rain activities for short duration.
