The rain surplus for the state of Tamil Nadu has improved further to 46 percent. All thanks to ongoing rainfall activities over many parts of the state for the last few days.

The last 24 hours were also of no difference as moderate Monsoon rains lashed many districts of the state. The capital city, Chennai on the other hand, recorded heavy intensity showers.
In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Meenambakkam observatory in Chennai observed 47 mm of rainfall, whereas Nungambakkam Observatory witnessed mere 3 mm of rains.
Other districts of Tamil Nadu that recorded rains during the same time frame include Palayamkottai 25 mm, Chinthamani 19 mm, Tiruppathur 15 mm and Kodaikanal 9 mm.
These ongoing showers can be attributed to a north-south trough that extends from Interior Odisha to South Tamil Nadu across Telangana and Rayalaseema. Besides this, a cyclonic circulation is seen over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Tamil Nadu Coast.
Weathermen at Skymet Weather expect these on and off Monsoon rains to last over the state for the entire week. Light to moderate rains with few heavy spells are possible, however these rains will not be incessant.

Rain intensity will differ from region to region. It is expected to be more in the interior as well as southern parts of the state. However, intermittent good showers over the coastal areas also cannot be ruled out.
The weather will remain pleasing and the temperatures will continue to settle near the normal across the state.
