Odisha, West Bengal, Gujarat, Rajasthan paralyzed by floods

Heavy Monsoon rains for the last few days have claimed more than 100 lives so far and forced several thousands of people to take shelter in relief camps. The affected states include West Bengal, Odisha, Manipur, Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Here are few images of miseries brought about by deluge caused in the four states:

West Bengal

In the image above, we can see a stray dog taking the support of a woman to cross a flooded street in Kolkata.

Cyclone Komen struck the state of West Bengal and Odisha killing more than 50 people in flood-related incidents. Going by media reports, the Government of West Bengal has announced that more than four million people in 10,000 villages have been affected by the floods. Around 15,000 relief camps have been set up across the districts of Asansol, Burdwan, 24 Parganas, Murshidabad and others.

Manipur

Even Manipur in Northeast India was not saved from the fury of heavy rains. Many places in the state were inundated today due to heavy downpour.

 

Around 20 people were killed in Manipur due to a landslide after heavy showers. The mudslide buried an entire village.

Gujarat

Before the spate of floods in the aforementioned states, Gujarat and Rajasthan received incessant heavy Monsoon rains. Topography and geographical situation in these two states make them prone to floods.
