The state of Odisha has been witnessing some intense weather activity for the past few days. So much so that lightning strikes have wreaked havoc over the state causing the death of 36 people and injuring 37 people as well.
During the last 48 hours, the state has received some significant Monsoon rains. In fact, the last 24 hours have been even rainier resulting in some intense rains over Puri. Other areas in close proximity have also witnessed some heavy rains.
During the last 21 hours from 8:30 am yesterday to 5:30 am today, Puri recorded a whopping 94 mm of rainfall. These heavy Monsoon rains can be attributed to the low-pressure area, which has developed over west-central Bay of Bengal adjoining north-west Bay.
As the system is expected to persist for quite some time, more rains are expected to lash the state. Rains will be more intense over coastal parts of Odisha. During the next 24 hours, some heavy Monsoon rains are likely over the coast along with some rainfall activity over the interior parts as well.
At present, the state of Odisha is observing a rainfall deficit of 20 percent, making it fall under the rain deficient category. However, the upcoming spells of rain may help the state overcome some of its deficient figures.
