The state of Odisha has not received very heavy Monsoon rains for the past few days. So much so that the state has been only receiving light to moderate rains. However, the last 24 hours have brought some good Monsoon rains over the region.

Good Monsoon rains are expected to continue over the state of Odisha, particularly the coastal parts during the next 24 hours as well. In fact, the possibility of a few heavy spells over some cities also cannot be ruled out.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Chandbali recorded 114 mm of rain, followed by Paradip where 32.8 mm rainfall was received.  Many other cities in Odisha received good rains including Puri 4 mm, Balasore 5.9 mm, Bhubaneswar 9 mm, Cuttack 11.4 mm, Dhenkanal 7 mm, and Keonjhargarh 15.5 mm.

These good rains have been lashing the state due to a fresh cyclonic circulation which has developed over West Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal. The axis of the Monsoon trough is also running in close proximity of the region.

Due to these weather systems, moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal has increased over the region.

At present, the state of Odisha is observing a rainfall deficiency of 8 percent, making it fall under the normal rains category. More rains over the state will only help in improving the deficient figures.
