Odisha is being lashed by heavy Monsoon rains

August 18, 2016 10:00 AM | Skymet Weather Team

The Monsoon system over Northwest Bay of Bengal intensified into a deep depression on Wednesday evening. It moved northwestwards and entered the land. The system can now be seen lying between Digha and Diamond Harbour.

In wake of this weather system, Odisha has received heavy rains during last 24 hours. Paradip recorded 102 mm of rainfall while Balasore received 58 mm of rains. Puri also received 4.8 mm of rainfall, Bhubaneswar 7 mm and Chandabali recorded 31 mm of rainfall.

The system is likely to move in a northerly direction for some time and further in a west-northwest direction. It will weaken gradually and rains will also reduce after 24 hours.

We could say that this is the second consecutive day of three digit showers in the state. On August 17, Skymet Weather has written, Triple digit rain covers Madhya Pradesh, Odisha.

We can expect some more rains, with isolated places receiving heavy showers, over East Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Gangetic West Bengal. Odisha is also likely to witness Monsoon rains during next 24 hours.

So far, Odisha has recieved 10% less rains than the normal figures. However, during last 24 hours the state has received 16.6 mm of rainfall against the normal rains of 11.3 mm for the day.
