These rain and thundershowers over the state of Odisha can be attributed to a low pressure area that is presently over west-central Bay of Bengal off Andhra/South Odisha Coast. As per weatherman at Skymet, in the next 24 to 48 hours, this weather system is likely to move towards North Bay of Bengal.
As a result, pre-Monsoon rains will pick up pace across the state, resulting in moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers with squally winds over many parts of Odisha, particularly the coastal districts. Intense lightning and thunderstorm can also be observed over few parts of Odisha.

With these rains, temperatures at present have dropped and they are likely to drop more. As of now, maximum temperatures over most regions are settling in the range of 32°C to 38°C, while there are one or two areas where the mercury is still near 40 degree-mark. However, pleasant and enjoyable weather conditions are prevailing over the region.
Weathermen are foreseeing Southwest Monsoon to make an onset over more parts of Odisha by the third week of June.
