Odisha is all set to welcome Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to mark the occasion of Odisha Day amid hot and humid weather conditions.
Every year, April 1 is observed as Odisha Day, also known as Utkala Dibasa, to celebrate the formation day of the state on April 1, 1936. The state was earlier named as Orissa.
Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Rourkela in Odisha on the occasion, where he will inaugurate the second modernisation and expansion project of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). Thereafter, he would also take stock of RSP’s plate mill.
Later in the day, prime minister is likely to address a public rally on the outskirts of the city. Around one lakh people from Odisha and nearby areas are expected to attend the rally, defying the scorching heat. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, day temperatures are settling in mid 30s over the region, making afternoon quite hot.
RSP, which is owned by state-run Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), has built this modernisation project with an expenditure of around Rs 12,000 crore. The new project has a capacity of 4.5 million tonnes per annum, an increase from 2 mtpa earlier.
Reportedly, Narendra Modi may also announce Rs 36,000-crore capacity expansion plan for Rourkela steel plant during the inauguration of the modernized unit.
